The Fox Creek Murder
Bethany Clipper Bethany Missouri Fri Sep 29 1911 page 1
Nothing new has developed surrounding the mysterious murder of Mrs. Ed. Shirley, that happened in an upper room of her home, Sunday morning, Sept. 17th, in the absence of her husband. The Shirley's live in Fox Creek township, and while every effort is being put forth by the peopel of that neighborhood to ascertain some clue or fact,s nothing as yet has been brought to light.
"Bump" Davidson, who was placed under arrest by H.H. Eades, deputy sheriff, had his preliminary examination before F.S. Springer, justice of the peace of Fox Creek township, Wednesday of last week. There being no evidence in which the crime could be traced to said Davidson, he was released.
Many rumors have been afloat implicating others guilty of the crime, but nothing is known at this time (or at least it has not been made known.) to cause the arrest of any other person or persons.
It is hoped by all that something will yet turn up that will bring to justice the one guilty of this awful crime.
